Rohit Communities at the India Film Festival

Topic: Rohit Communities News

We at Rohit Communities are so excited and proud to be a sponsor of the 2017 India Film Festival of Alberta, run by the Edmonton Movie Club. The festival aims to bridge cultures through cinema, and we can’t wait to be a part of it all! Having been a sponsor of this great event for several years, we’re amazed at how large the event has gotten, spreading across several regions in Alberta! This year we’ll be setting up a booth at both the Edmonton festival, which runs July 14-16 at the Metro Cinema, and the Calgary one from July 21 – 23 at Globe Cinema so be sure to say hi to us when you stop by!

The Edmonton Movie Club is a non-profit that works to celebrate cultural diversity by connecting Albertans to regional language films of India. It’s a cause that is close to our own hearts. Radhe and Krishna Gupta, Rohit Communities’ founders, hail from India and incorporate cultural diversity into every aspect of the business. From throwing Diwali parties to creating globally-inspired home interior styles (check out our newest Timeless Traditional style!), being able to celebrate different cultures, tastes, and styles is part of what makes Canada such an amazing place to live.

The Rohit team can’t wait to see all the films, but here are a few we are particularly excited about:

  1. Newton
    1. Newton Kumar is a rookie government clerk who is tasked with trying to conduct a free and fair vote with in a town controlled by the Naxalite terrorist group in the conflict-ridden jungles of chhattisgarh
  2. A Death in the Gunj
    1. This drama thriller set in 1979 a relaxing family holiday in the country becomes tense when a young man’s life starts to fall to pieces.
  3. Take Off
    1. Take off is inspired by the real-life rescue of Indian nurses who were stranded in Iraq during the 2014 civil war. The film follows the life of Sameera, when ISIS militants take control of their hospital. Will they make it out alive from the crisis?

If you aren’t in Edmonton or Calgary, the India Film Festival of Alberta also has showings at these locations:

  • Fort McMurray, July 29
